BlueAventurine Rosary with Pardon Crucifix and IHS center

BlueAventurine Rosary with Pardon Crucifix and IHS center

I love to use a Pardon Crucifix on my rosaries because it carries a special indulgence attached to its use.  For those who are not familiar with the term indulgence it is given by the Church to remit the temporal punishment of sins that have been forgiven.

   About the Pardon Crucifix:.
These indulgences have been declared upon the Pardon Crucifix by Pope St. Pius X in 1905, and have been approved in the pardon of the living and the souls in Purgatory in 1907. The lengths of the indulgences were repealed in the new Enchiridion, and the indulgences were granted to remit the guilt of the sin committed:

1. Whoever carries on his person the Pardon Crucifix, may thereby gain an indulgence.

2. For devoutly kissing the Crucifix, an indulgence is gained.

3. Whoever says one of the following invocations before this crucifix may gain each time an indulgence: "Our Father who art in heaven, forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us." "I beg the Blessed Virgin Mary to pray to the Lord our God for me."

4. Whoever, habitually devout to this Crucifix, will fulfill the necessary conditions of Confession and Holy Communion, may gain a Plenary Indulgence on the following feasts: On the feasts of the Five Wounds of our Lord, the Invention of the Holy Cross, the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, the Immaculate Conception, and the Seven Sorrows (Dolors) of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

5. Whoever, at the moment of death, fortified with the Sacraments of the Church, or contrite of heart, in the supposition of being unable to receive them, will kiss this Crucifix and ask pardon of God for his sins, and pardon his neighbor, will gain a Plenary Indulgence.

Heather's Homestead Shop Intro!

Hello, everyone.  I'm a Catholic Mother, expecting my 5th child this April.  I live with my family on a small farm and keep chickens, honeybees, pigs, and grow a large vegetable garden.  From January to Easter, I decorate Ukrainian Easter Eggs (Pysanky).  With their deep Catholic symbolism, I hope that they will inspire people to bring their hearts closer to God this Easter season and always!

I sell my pysanky at www.HeathersHomestead.etsy.com.  Please come over and visit my shop.

I also blog about homestead life, catholic mothering, Polish traditions, and pysanky making.  There is a pysanka giveaway going on right now to celebrate the grand opening of my shop!  Find out how to enter at this post:  www.faithfunandfamily.blogspot.com/2011/01/my-first-giveaway.html.

Here are some examples of my work:

A goose egg pysanka with poppy motif.

White chicken egg pysanka with star & flowers motif.

A brown chicken egg pysanka with church motif.

Pysanky may look painted, but they are done with a wax-resist technique.  Melted beeswax is written on the empty eggshells with a special stylus.  The egg is then dipped in successively darker dyes with more beeswax written in between colors.  The beeswax is then melted off to reveal the completed design!

Here are some common symbols and their meanings:
  • Stars:  Christ, the light of the world
  • Crosses:  Salvation
  • Flowers and Greenery:  Springtime and the Resurrection
  • 5 dots in a pattern:  The 5 Wounds of Christ
  • Teardrop Shapes:  Tears of Mary
  • Waves:  The Waters of Baptism
  • Nets:  That we Christians are to be Fishers of Men
  • Triangles:  The Holy Trinity
I wish you a Blessed Lent and a Happy Easter Season 2011!!!
